bluebird tavern burger
I feel the need to devote a few lines to Bluebird Tavern, a gastropub located in Burlington, Vermont. The last time I was there I had monkfish cheeks and veal tongue. Delicious. The fries are to die for, mostly because of the two homemade dipping sauces (aioli and catsup). The lamb ribs are fatty and succulent; the chicken liver toast is yum. And although I wasn’t a huge fan of the olive oil ice cream, I appreciated it. I preferred the buttermilk sorbet. It’s nice to have a place in Burlington that serves the unexpected. No matter how weird it may sound the food tastes good. It’s also nice that it serves local products and that the menu changes with what’s in season. I’ve seen one of the chefs (pictured) shopping at the farmers market on Saturday morning…

As much as I love Bluebird’s dinner, I was disappointed by its brunch. The restaurant interior is way too dark (it feels like it’s 11pm instead of 11am) and the two dishes I tried left much to be desired. The scones were heavy and overly sweet and the fried chicken with waffles needed something moist, like scrambled eggs, for example, to pull them together.

Brunch aside, I am a big fan of Bluebird.
